NBI arrests woman 'for child trafficking'

A woman has been arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for alleged trafficking of a 15-year-old girl, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced on Tuesday, April 5.

The NBI identified her as Jasmina Marohombasar, also known as “Jamina M. Dida,” who has been charged with violations of Republic Act No. 9207, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 -- as amended by RA 10364, the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012 -- and RA 7910, the Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

It said its International Airport Division (NBI-IAID) took custody Morohombasar last March 24 after receiving an endorsement from the NAIA Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons (NAIA-TFAT).

It said that last March 23, a 15-year-old girl who hails from the Visayas sought the assistance of airport police after being left by a certain Jasmina Dida who later was found to be Marohombasar.

“Further investigation revealed that the victim worked as a baby sitter of the two-year-old daughter of the subject from October 2021 up to January 2022 and was only paid P1,500 for three (3) months instead of the monthly pay of P3,500,” the NBI said.

“In February 2022, the subject convinced the victim to come with her to Dubai where she will be paid P10,000 and that Subject Marohombasar will prepare and secure the necessary travel documents,” it added.

The victim said that she complied with the requirements, including the authorization of her mother, and were given to Marohombasar, it said.

“On March 10, 2022, the Subject brought the victim to Manila and on March 23, 2022, they both arrived at NAIA Terminal 1 where the Subject told the victim that she was no longer coming to Dubai because she failed to show her documents for their travel,” it also said.

It noted that that NBI-IAID agents arrested Morohombasar after verifications from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region VII showed that “there was no clearance issued to the victim.”
