Here's the story behind the look
The Philippines has a rich heritage when it comes to gold. Before the Spaniards came, ancient Filipinos turn the precious metal into filigree tambourine jewelry and other ornaments like amulets and talismans. Paying homage to this heritage is Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray as she wore a golden ensemble during the unveiling of her wax figure at Madame Tussauds Singapore.
Created by Filipino designer Jaggy Glarino, the piece is inspired by the 2015 exhibit, “Philippine Gold: Treasures of Forgotten Kingdoms,” shown in New York. According to the designer, the showcase featured “priceless golden artifacts found in Agusan, Philippines. Intricate gold accessories, figurines, and other items are very telling of the sophisticated cultural core and the rich pre-colonial history of the Philippines.”
Apart from the gilded look, Catriona also donned a glimmering silver halter top and black high-waisted pants ensemble by Prada and a floral ensemble courtesy of Iris Apfel x H&M collection during her stay in Singapore.
