Center for internet crimes vs children rescues 134 victims, nabs 15 offenders in 51 operations

The Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Center (PICACC) has rescued 134 victims and arrested 15 offenders since February 2021, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Wednesday, March 30.

In a statement, the NBI sad the rescue and arrests were done in 51 operations conducted as of last March 4.

Aside from the NBI, the other members of the PICACC are the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Crime Agency (NCA), Australian Federal Police (AFP), Dutch National Police (Politie) and International Justice Mission (IJM).

PICACC is chaired by NBI Anti-Human Trafficking Division (NBI-AHTRAD) Chief Janet Francisco who had sought stronger ties with its members.

“Despite the pandemic brought about by Covid-19, the recorded accomplishments were achieved through the joint efforts of the NBI-AHTRAD and PNP’ Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC),” the NBI said.

It said that the PICACC was established in 2019 “to combat the increasing cases of online sexual exploitation of children.”

“The first two years of collaboration among the member-agencies of PICACC show a record of 154 rescued victims and the arrest of 48 sexual offenders in 52 operations from February 27, 2019 up February 26, 2020,” the NBI said.

“For the period Feb. 27, 2020 up to Feb. 26, 2021, the total number of rescued victims has reached 238 and the arrest of 50 offenders in 76 operations,” it added.
