
The seven prison facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) had been declared free from the coronavirus disease (Covid19) since Jan. 20, 2022.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 29, BuCor Deputy Director General Gabriel P. Chaclag said: “Since Jan 30, 2022 ay zero case na ang BuCor both PDLs and staff. (Since Jan. 30, 2022, there have been zero Covid-19 cases among the persons deprived of liberty and prison staff).”
Chaclag said the Covid-free prison facilities was achieved through “prevention measures, vaccination, and grant of vitamins to all PDLs and staff.”
Since the onset of the Covid pandemic in March 2020, a total of 688 PDLs and 599 BuCor personnel had been infected. Among them, there had been 33 inmates and eight BuCor personnel who had died, Chaclag said.
There were 24 PDLs who died at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, four at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, two at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte, and three at the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Abuyog, Leyte.
BuCor personnel who died included two from the bureau’s headquarters in Muntinlupa City, two at the CIW, one at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, and one from DPPF.
