NBI arrests 2 persons; rescues 8 women from spa 'offering sex trade' in Pasig City

Two persons were arrested and eight women were rescued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) from a Pasig City spa which has been allegedly engaged in sex trade.
In a statement, the NBI identified the spa as the Clam Wellness Spa and those arrested as cashier and receptionist Karen Joy Devota and customer Jose Maria Andrew Sison.
After their arrest last Feb. 28, the NBI said they were charged with violations of Republic Act No. 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, before the Pasig City prosecutor’s office.
It said the eight women rescued by agents of the NBI’s Anti-Human Trafficking Division (NBI-AHTRAD) have been turned over to Pasig City’s Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO).
The NBI said it acted on reports that “a certain establishment in Pasig City is being used as a cover by the perpetrators in conducting human trafficking activities.”
“NBI-AHTRAD operatives validated thru surveillance the said information and discovered that the establishment ‘Clam Wellness Spa’ is being used as a cover by the perpetrators in offering ‘extra service’ (known as sex service),” it also said.
