Director General Gerald Q. Bantag on Tuesday, March 8, took his oath of office before Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra as head of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
Bantag’s appointment as BuCor head was signed by President Duterte last March 4.
He was first appointed by the President as head of BuCor in 2019 and took over the post from then Director General Nicanor Faeldon. However, in his 2019 appointment, he kept his item as senior superintendent of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
“He was designated as DG, but he kept his item with the BJMP,” Guevarra said about the 2019 appointment of Bantag.
“Now he is appointed directly to the BuCor, with a tour of duty not exceeding six years,” the justice secretary said.
Bantag was a graduate and a member of the 1996 Kaagapay Class of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA).
During his time at the BJMP, Bantag served as regional director in the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) region.
He also served as jail warden of the Parañaque City, Manila, and Malabon City jails.
