Imported used clothes worth about P2 million have been seized from a Lapu-Lapu City “ukay-ukay” shop.

In a statement, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said the imported used clothes were confiscated from the premises of MINJ ABATAYO inside a subdivision during an operation conducted by the NBI’s Central Visayas Region Office (NBI-CEVRO).

“The caretakers of the premises failed to present any document or business permit authorizing the sale online of the said imported products,” the NBI said.

“Thus, the joint operatives seized 300 bundles/bales of assorted used clothes with an estimated value of P2 Million,” it said.

It said the subdivision’s homeowners’ association and the employees told the NBI agents that the “ukay-ukay” shop reportedly belonged to Manila-based trader Cressia Cabales-Antonio.

It noted that the operation was conducted based on a search warrant issued by the Lapu-Lapu City regional trial court (RTC).

“The Search Warrant was issued against the Subject’s premises for violation of Republic Act No. 4653 (Illegal commercial importation of used clothing/rugs) in relation to Section 6 of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) for selling assorted used clothes ‘ukay-ukay’ believed to be from Korea and Japan through online,” the NBI said.
