Five persons have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from a landowner whose property the suspects claimed as their own.
Those arrested in Quezon City last Feb. 16 by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were identified as Rowena Nava, Jeffrey Brequillo, Norman Solsona, Lando Banzon, and Efren dela Pena. No additional details were given by the NBI on the suspects.
In a statement, the NBI said the suspects have been charged with grave coercion and robbery extortion before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
It said an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of the five suspects was conducted based on the complaint filed by the landowner whose identity was not revealed.
“According to the complainant, he owned a land which was being claimed by the Subjects as their property... and the Subjects are extorting money from him for the return of his own property,” it said.
