Powerhouse One Cebu party backs Sara's VP bid

CEBU CITY--A dominant political party in Cebu is backing the vice presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Even before formally announcing its support for Duterte-Carpio, One Cebu was already behind the candidacy of the presidential daughter, said Cebu 3rd District Rep. Pablo John Garcia, the party's secretary-general.

“We have always been for Sara Duterte as vice president. In fact, had she run for president, One Cebu would not have had any difficulty endorsing her candidacy. It went without saying that we supported her vice-presidential bid and reaffirm our commitment to her victory in Cebu," Garcia said in a statement.

While it has already publicly declared its support for Duterte-Carpio, the party has yet to decide who will be its presidential bet.

“Perhaps the focus in recent weeks has been on who our candidate for president will be. That is understandable. But the party had always been for Mayor Sara as vice president the moment she substituted as candidate for vice president,” added Garcia, who is the brother of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Though One Cebu has yet to endorse a presidential candidate, the Garcias of Cebu have different choices.

Pablo John has been accompanying Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in his sorties in Cebu.

Pablo John also attended Moreno's proclamation rally and just like in previous public engagements, he introduced the Manila Mayor as the "next President of the Republic of the Philippines."

Pablo John's niece, Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco, has declared her support to the tandem of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and Duterte-Carpio.

As president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter, Garcia-Frasco has even announced that the 44 mayors in the province are backing Marcos.
