The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said it had acted on all the 96 complaints received from the 8888 Citizen’s Complaint Center in 2021.
The complaint center is managed by the Office of the Executive Secretary which “coordinates with the concerned government agency for the prompt resolution of public grievances and to provide feedback on the action taken on citizens' concerns within 72 hours.”
In a statement, BuCor said that the 58 complaints were resolved within 72 hours from receipt, while the 38 others were resolved a little more than 72 hours.
“This means that BuCor had a compliance rate of 60.42 percent in 2021,” it said.
It did not disclose, however, the names of the complainants and the nature of the complaints it received from the center in 2021.
It said the complaint center “commended the Bureau's outstanding effort in accommodating all citizens' concern regarding red tape and corruption of any national government agency, government-owned-or-controlled corporation, government financial institution and other instrumentalities of the government referred to the Bureau's office.”
“The Bureau of Corrections, under the leadership and guidance of Director General Gerald Q. Bantag, is always determined to be part of change and continues to fight against red tape and corruption for the betterment of the public,” it also said.
Thus, it said, the report from the complaint center will be included in BuCor’s performance report “which shall form part of the criteria for the grant of the performance-based bonus (PBB) 2021.”
