No First Gentleman for VP Leni, says she’s never going to remarry

Like the time of former President Corazon Aquino, there will be no First Gentleman in Malacañang should Vice President Leni Robredo win in the May 2022 polls.

If ever, this is the third time a woman will be elected to the highest position in the country and the second widow.

Robredo told dzBB on Monday, Jan. 31, that she will never remarry nor enter into a romantic relationship.

“Unang una, ‘yung magkaroon ulit ng katuwang sa buhay sigurado akong hindi ‘yan mangyayari. Sigurado akong hindi ‘yun mangyayari, sigurado akong hindi ako mag-aasawa, sigurado akong hindi na ako papasok sa isang (First of all, to have a husband again, I am sure that will not happen. I am sure that will not happen, I’m sure I’ll never remarry, I’m sure I will not enter into a) relationship, romantic relationship,” she stressed.

In an earlier interview, Robredo said it is “unimaginable” for her to remarry after 25 years with her husband, former Interior secretary Jesse Robredo.

“I’ve been blessed with the best husband. Tingin ko hindi na ako magiging masuwerte ulit (I don’t think I will be as lucky)... I’ve had enough love to last me a lifetime," she insisted.

The Vice President can focus on her job well because her three daughters are all grown-up and have their own careers.

Aika, the eldest, is the executive director of a non-government organization; Tricia is a licensed medical doctor; and Jillian is graduating this May with a double degree in Mathematics and Economics from the New York University.

Robredo admitted that if they were still little, it would’ve been harder for her to be in public service despite them being exposed to it all their lives.

Before being an interior secretary, Jesse was mayor of Naga City for six terms.

The Robredo sisters help in the campaign in their own ways. Just last Sunday, Aika and Jillian attended separate events in the Vice President’s behalf.

“‘Pag walang kampanya, nandoon sila sa kani-kanilang mga inaasikasong mga karera, pag-aaral. Pero (If there is no campaign, they are there in their own careers, studies. But) during the campaign, lahat (everyone) all hands on deck kami,” the lady official said.
