New plant-based and vegan treats to try on your next coffee run

Tasty and green food options courtesy of Tim Hortons and Starbucks

Gone are the days when vegan and plant-based food options are nowhere to be found. As going green ethical eating continues to be among the top trends in the local dining scene, restaurants and other food spots are putting onto the plate their best take on this food movement. The latest to showcase this are local branches of international coffee brands Tim Hortons and Starbucks.

Meat-free sandwiches

Opening 2022 on a healthy note is Tim Hortons Philippines as it partners with Nestlé Professional Philippines and launches two delicious offerings to its menu: the meat-free Classic Barbecue Sensational Burger, and meat-free Grilled Quesadilla with Barbecue Sauce. The meat-free Classic Barbecue Sensational Burger (P230) contains Harvest Gourmet patty, barbecue dressing, fresh tomato, onion, lettuce, and cheese, sandwiched in a brioche bun. Serving soft grilled tortilla with barbecue dressing, onion, green peppers, and cheese, the Grilled Quesadilla with Barbecue Sauce (P190) uses the same brand’s Schnitzel pieces, giving consumers an affordable meat-free alternative. These new snacks are now available in 31 Tim Hortons Philippines stores.

Guilt-free indulgence

Dessert becomes healthier with Starbucks vegan-friendly delights. First on the plate is its Chocolate Turtle Cake serving true decadence with its layers of dense chocolate chia brownie, moist vanilla and chocolate sponge cake, and velvety caramel pudding with bits of pecan nuts, finished with milk frosting, and covered with cacao nibs and roasted pecans on the sides. Its Chunky Chocolate Cookie, on the other hand, is the perfect pick-me-up treat with dark chocolate chunks embedded in a thick and chewy cookie, made with a plant-based egg substitute.

Happy snacking!
