There were four, not three prisoners, who escaped from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa on Jan. 17.
The Muntinlupa police identified the fourth escapee as Chris Ablas, who is serving his sentence for robbery with homicide at the NBP.
This brings to two the number of NBP escapees who are still at large. The other one is Drakilou Falcon, 34, who is serving sentence for robbery with homicide.
The police and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) are conducting manhunt operations to arrest the two prisoners.
On Jan. 17, BuCor and the police identified three prisoners who escaped the NBP after midnight on Jan. 17. They were Pacifico Adlawan, 49; Arwin Bio,35; and Falcon.
According to the Muntinlupa police, the three prisoners escaped from the NBP maximum security camp by sawing off the grills of the window of their dormitory cell. They fired at corrections officers at NBP Gates 4 and 3, and fled towards Sitio Magdaong inside the NBP Reservation.
The BuCor said on Jan. 18 that Ablas “was reported missing up to present with possibility as the 4th and unidentified escapee who was involved in the prison escape incident on 17 Jan 2022.”
Elements from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and BuCor conducted manhunt operations inside the NBP Reservation to capture the escapees.
Two of the escapees were killed during a firefight with authorities on Jan. 17. The Muntinlupa police identified the fatalities as Adlawan, who was serving his sentence for frustrated homicide and drug use, and Bio, who was convicted of attempted murder and murder.
Adlawan was killed in the Magdaong area of the NBP Reservation while Bio was killed during an encounter with authorities along the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX).
Three BuCor corrections officers and one prisoner were wounded during the escape. They were identified as Angelito Marquez, 57; Mark Joseph Pesons, 29; and Jancy Dagonas, 26; and prisoner Michael Dullavin. They were rushed to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa for treatment.
