Journalists who arrived early were the first to try them
In light of the world’s ongoing battle against COVID-19, the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing is looking at technology to create a safe environment for international athletes, journalists, and other officials participating in the games. Among its many innovations are the food-serving robots that can be seen at one media dining area.
According to a story released by Reuters, requested meals are prepared electronically in the kitchen and, like manna from heaven, are delivered from the ceiling by food-serving robots, minimizing physical contact and possible transmission of the virus. This service is becoming essential as food deliveries from restaurants outside the “loop” (areas covering Olympic venues) are not allowed.
Reports say that stricter health protocols will be observed throughout the Olympics’ run, with everyone undergoing COVID-19 testing, a three-week quarantine (which started on Jan. 4, 2022), and being assigned to a “bubble.”
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games will begin on Feb. 4, 2022.
