Eight films that helped mold the nation’s film heritage will be screened on the FDCP Channel in celebration of Philippine Film Industry Month. Starting this year, Film Industry Month will be celebrated every September, an annual month-long observation mandated by President Duterte. It is designed to commemorate the heritage, significance, and legacy of Philippine Cinema. The inaugural celebration has for its theme, "Ngayon ang Bagong SineMula!"

Mary Liza Dino, chair of Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), announced in a recent media conference the Film Heritage lineup to air throughout September.

Curated by the FDCP Philippine Film Archive (PFA), the line-up includes: “Brutal” by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, “Insiang” and “White Slavery” by National Artist Lino Brocka, “Manila by Night” and “Pagdating sa Dulo” by National Artist Ishmael Bernal, “Sinong Lumikha ng Yoyo, Sino Lumikha ng Moon Buggy” and “Turumba” by National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Kidlat Tahimik, and “The Sex Warriors and the Samurai” by Nick Deocampo.

A special feature of the first-ever Philippine Film Industry Month is the Elwood Perez Retrospective featuring free screenings of at least 10 films by the two-time Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) Awards Best Director and three-time FAMAS Best Director.

FDCP is celebrating Elwood’s 50th anniversary as a filmmaker.

The films are "Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit," "Ibulong Mo sa Diyos," "Nakawin Natin ang Bawat Sandali," "Masarap, Masakit ang Umibig," "Beerhouse," "Esoterika: Maynila," "Inday Garutay," "Otso," "Shame," "Stepsisters," "Till We Meet Again" and "Isang Gabi… Tatlong Babae!"

The heritage films, a mere cross-section from his filmography of over 50 films in a span of 50 years, will be shown on the FDCP Channel from September 25 to 30.

Enclosed within the first-ever Philippine Film Industry Month is the 5th edition of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP), presenting films straight from the mouth of babes, so to speak.

Opening on Sept. 15 on the FDCP Channel, it presents 10 short films under Sine Kabataan and 15 more from Sine Isla: LuzViMinda.

Both short film competitions are under the auspices of the FDCP.

FDCP Chair Mary Liza Dino said the agency’s flagship film festival is offering fresh perspectives from the youth and regional narratives.

The past four years, PPP has served as the breeding ground of films known for their innovative spirit with matching commercial appeal. Some of the highly successful films that first made their mark on the festival are Panti Sisters, “100 Tula Para kay Stella,” and “The Day After Valentine’s,” both by Jason Paul Laxamana, “Patay na si Hesus” by Victor Villanueva.
