Pasay CENRO coastal clean-up operation nets 5,834 kilos of trash

The Pasay City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) conducted a clean-up operation at the baywalk near the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and was able to collect about 5,834 kilograms of garbage.

Mayor Emi Calixto – Rubiano said the team of CENRO joined the bay cleanup operation on Saturday (Sept. 18) in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day.

CENRO supervising administrative officer Ronald Rey “RR” Salvador said seven garbage trucks were used to pick-up the garbage collected during the cleanup operation.

Salvador said the city government used three trash traps to prevent garbage trash from nearby cities and provinces like Cavite and Bataan.

He said the CENRO also usually conducts cleanup operations in the city's four esteros/creeks and in Manila Bay to prevent flooding in the city.

Salvador also said the city has two pumping stations located along Libertad Street and Don Carlos Revilla Village that filter the garbage.

The city also has a retarding pond located along Aurora Boulevard where a creek and estero meet prior to draining to Paranaque River then to Marikina Bay.
