After its star revelation was canceled last year, the Michelin Guide Singapore is back and honors distinct restaurants and food spots last Sept. 1, 2021. While this year's ceremony celebrates the best of Singapore's food scene, some were also ripped with their Michelin accolade, one of which is Hawker Chan.

Formerly known as Liao Fan Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodles, Hawker Chan is led by Singapore-based chef Chan Hon Meng. Prior to establishing the food stall in 2009, Chan first started as an apprentice under a chef in Hong Kong when he was 15 years old. During that time, he learned to perfect the soy sauce chicken recipe his hawker is famous for.

In 2016, the Michelin Guide Singapore awarded chef Chan's brand with a one Michelin Star honor, making its humble recipe known as "The World First Hawker Michelin-starred Meal" and "The Cheapest Michelin-starred Meal in the World." In that same year, after partnering with Hersing Culinary, the hawker food stall was turned into a concept restaurant and assumed its new name, Hawker Chan. According to its website, the restaurant brand is present in six countries, including the Philippines, with its local franchise handled by Foodee Concept Global.

The Michelin Guide Singapore awards food establishments from one to three stars. A one Michelin star recognizes restaurants or eateries' use of quality ingredients and meals with distinct flavor. Two stars are given when the dishes reflect the talent and personality of the chef. Three stars, the highest award, is bestowed when "cooking is elevated to an art form and some of their dishes are destined to become classics."
