This mobile coffee shop serves brewed drinks all over Laguna

Have you seen its roaming cart?

Throughout the pandemic, with layoffs and dining restrictions happening, Filipinos learned that the best way to survive is through food and drink business. Food entrepreneurship has been among the many keys to make the most out of the pandemic confinement. And some find their success is guaranteed by selling coffee.

Coffee Grind roaming store

That's true for Laguna-based enterprise Coffee Grind, but what sets it apart is that it brings brewed cups to customers all over the province through its mobile shop. Led by couple Jhoan Escudero and Ian Kakilala, their coffee business was born out of their delivery service. On March 2021, their first cart officially rolled to the street.

"As our delivery service is going well, we decided to think of another business that is part of our daily lives, something that never gets out of us, which is coffee," Jhoan tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. "We had an idea of going to the people because not everyone is allowed to go outside. That's where the coffee shop in a cart idea came up."

Currently, Coffee Grind now has four branches all over Laguna, one of which is a roaming cart. These cafés on wheels are manned by their 10 baristas who range from working students to people with disabilities.

"We are overwhelmed by how people appreciated and loved our coffee in a cart since both of us don't have any experience of being a barista or even our employees," she says. "We always assure our customers that they are satisfied with the quality of coffee we serve."

Speaking of their coffee, the couple makes sure to highlight coffee beans that are sourced locally. According to the owners, they use 100 percent pure Sagada Arabica cultivated by farmers from Baguio. A must-try in their coffee carts is the cold brew latte that comes in a 22oz cup for P70.

"You will experience the goodness of strong coffee that comes with a creamier milk," Jhoan muses.

"We believe that coffee always helps in different aspects or situations in our lives," she continues. "Coffee is a drink that helps us to keep going. We wanted to share and be an inspiration to anyone who loves coffee and dreams of having a coffee shop."
