Just in case you’re too young to care about this pop culture icon, it was announced that "The Matrix 4" is slated to arrive in cinemas in December and streaming platforms in the latter part of 2021.

The producers of this latest installment recently announced that the official title of the movie is “The Matrix Resurrections.”

The title was unveiled at CinemaCon in Las Vegas along with the first trailer. The trailer though has yet  to appear online.

The last movie “The Matrix Revolutions” was back in 2003.

According to Empire Online, those who did saw the trailer described it as thus: “Keanu Reeves’ character (is he still Thomas Anderson?) apparently remembers nothing of his previous life, and visits his therapist, played by Neil Patrick Harris. But it’s not long before he’s drawn back into the world of crazy action and Carrie Anne Moss’ Trinity – even if she and Neo barely recognize each other.”

Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (who played Black Manta in DC’s "Aquaman") also appears and is rumored to play an incarnation of Morpheus, a role originally played by Laurence Fishburn.

Beside Reeves and Moss, actors Jada Pinkett-Smith (Niobe) and Lambert Wilson (The Merovingian) and Daniel Bernhardt (as one of the three agents) will return to the franchise, possibly to reprise their roles.

Lana Wachowski directs with a script written by Wachowski, David Mitchell and Aleksander Hemon. Actors Erendia Ibarra, Priyanka Chopra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith and Ellen Hollman Harris are also cast in undisclosed roles.

Hugo Weaving who played Neo’s arch nemesis Agent Smith had scheduling conflicts while Laurence Fishburne was not approached to reprise his role as Morpheus hence skipping “The Matrix 4.”

“The Matrix: Ressurections” is scheduled for a December 22 theatrical release and will also be released on HBO Max for a month on the same date.
