Black Canary is out of the cage.
A-lister actress Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn may have had top billing on DC’s 2020 movie “Birds Of Prey,” but that movie was certainly packing major characters from the DC universe other than Harley.
And one of them is Black Canary a.k.a. Dinah Lance as played in the movie by Jurnee Smollett.

According to Cinelinx.com Warner is “developing a new project based around Jurnee Smollett’s Black Canary, with Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green on board to write the script.”
The news was confirmed by Smollet herself who tweeted, “Guess the Canary is out of the cage! So excited to finally embark on this adventure with my creative soul sis @MishaGreen #blackcanary #dinahlance #letttssssssgoooooo ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!”

Collider.com also confirmed that the Black Canary movie is “in the works at HBO Max.”
Smollett and Green worked together previously on the Lovecraft Country series.
While HBO Max has yet to issue its own press release about the Black Canary project, recent announcements of projects Batgirl and Blue Beetle point that the Black Canary film will also get the green light.
This only affirms Warner Bros. commitment in growing the DC extended universe and maximizing the content goldmine that is DC Comics moving forward.
