Good news! BIR extends tax deadlines in ECQ and MECQ areas

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has stretched the deadline for the filing of various tax returns in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified community quarantine (MECQ).

BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay said the extension was in response to the government's efforts to control the spread of the highly infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The BIR chief advised taxpayers to read Revenue Memorandum Circular 91-2021 for details about the extension at www.bir.gov.ph.

The circular stated that taxpayers may submit the returns within 15 days after the two types of quarantines are lifted without penalty for late payment.

To further protect taxpayers from possibly contracting COVID-19, they will also be allowed to file the returns at the nearest authorized agent bank, regardless if the bank is outside the jurisdiction of the revenue district office where they are registered.

Dulay said tax filers may also avail of the online payment facilities of selected banks, as well as GCash and PayMaya.
