90% of COVID-19 patients at St. Lukes unvaccinated, says hospital official

Ninety percent of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients at St. Lukes Medical Center (SLMC) are unvaccinated, its official said Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Speaking to ANC, SLMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Benjamin Campomanes said about 90 percent of their patients have not been vaccinated.

"Some of the people we see are because they are waiting for some kind of vaccine that they want. And I told them that you know, it becomes too late," Campomanes said.

"When people start waiting for the vaccine they like, then it's too late, they get the COVID," he added.

Vaccine brand preference is still a big challenge, he noted. However, Campomanes maintained that all vaccines are equally effective in preventing severe or critical COVID-19.

"Hopefully we can convince people that whatever vaccine you have, get it. Because it may give you some disease, but it's not going to make you go into the severe or critical disease that needs hospitalization," he reiterated.

Fully vaccinated patients who caught the virus only became moderately sick, according to Campomanes.

"None in the critical and the severe stage."
