71% of COVID-19 patients at Tala Hospital unvaccinated, says medical director


Seventy-one percent of coronavirus patients at the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (Tala Hospital) in Caloocan City are not vaccinated, its medical doctor said Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Tala Hospital Medical Director Dr. Alfonso Famaran Jr. said that out of 252 COVID-19 patients at the hospital, 71 percent are unvaccinated, seven percent are partially vaccinated, and 22 percent are fully vaccinated.

Famaran, in a virtual press briefing, noted that most of their COVID-19 patients currently admitted belong to the age group of 40 to 60 years old.

"Nasa 95 percent po ng fully vaccinated tsaka partially vaccinated nasa kategorya po ng moderate (About 95 percent of fully vaccinated patients are partially vaccinated patients are in the moderate category)," Famaran added.

Famaran said the increase in COVID-19 cases in the hospital started two weeks ago.

He also said the increase happened faster compared to the previous wave in March.

The Tala Hospital has 520 beds for COVID-19 patients, as of Aug. 10, 252 of them are occupied.
