Hiphop act Blxst trends locally with hot single 'Movie'

Hip Hop artist Blxst and Bino Rideaux's most recent collaboration is trending.

The Los Angeles-based music acts have been on top of Spotify’s Hot Hits Philippines playlist for the second week.

Their single “Movie,” released on Red Bull Records, is the pair’s first single off their “Sixtape 2” record due later this July.

Blxst (stylized spelling of “Blast”) and Bino Rideaux (stylized spelling of “Rider”) have been called “two of LA’s up and coming talents.” Their single “Movie” is relaxed number that highlights the duo’s “penchant for instantaneously catchy melodies” and “slick lyricism.” According to their press, the new single also “combines the R&B and Hip Hop influences” of Blxst and Bino Rideaux which primarily exude a “West Coast sound that serves as the perfect soundtrack to kick off the summer season.”

Their new music video is a playful jab at the Hiphop scene in LA, set in the “All Washed Up Car Wash.”

In particular, Blxst has been garnering praise from music outlets such as BET, Billboard, Pitchfork and the like. Blxst’s debut EP “No Love Lost” featured collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign, Tyga, Dom Kennedy and Bino Rideaux.

The EP’s hit single titled “Overrated” was instrumental in garnering Blxst over 180 million streams worldwide. Blxst’s streaming numbers in the Philippines surged when TikToker Jane Oineza used the former’s “Got It All '' track on the popular short form video app.

A previously released single titled “Chosen” that features Tyga and Ty Dolla $ign, also made a mark on Spotify, particularly topping the Hot Hits Philippines playlist as well as trending on TikTok among Pinoy users.

A rapper, singer, writer and producer, Blxst has been active since 2015 and has been building up as a multi-hyphenate. His skills also extend to music production that includes mixing and mastering. He has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar and a long list of music artists.
