Pink offers to help Norwegian women's team making a stand

Pop artist Pink is helping these women take a stand.

Pink is extending her help to the Norwegian women beach handball team after the latter was fined for refusing to wear bikini bottoms to their games.

The Norwegian women beach handball team wore shorts instead of the sports bikini top and bottoms that eventually got them fined for “breach of clothing regulations.”

The fine was incurred last week after the European Beach Handball Championship in Bulgaria. The team now owes 1,500 euros or $1,770 to the European Handball Federation who slapped them with the violation.

Pink is ready to assist the Norwegian women’s team though. 

Pink tweeted: “I’m very proud of the Norwegian female beach handball team FOR PROTESTING THE VERY SEXIST RULES ABOUT THEIR ‘uniform.’ The European handball federation SHOULD BE FINED FOR SEXISM, Good on ya, ladies. I’d be happy to pay your fines for you. Keep it up.”

Last week, the Norwegian women beach handball team’s actions got the attention of netizens who took their side.

One tweeted: “When the men play a sport wearing long shorts and tank tops, but the women are REQUIRED to wear bikini tops and bottoms, THAT is sexism! So either let the women wear the same as the men, or make the men play in Speedos.”

The European Handball Federation has since taken notice and issued their own statement through its president Michael Wiederer. “We are very much aware of the attention the topic has received over the past days, and while changes cannot happen overnight, we are fully committed that something good comes out of this situation right now which is why the EHF has donated the fine for a good cause promoting equality in sports.”  

On their Instagram account @norwaybeachhandballwomen, the team expressed their gratitude. “Thank you so much for all the support ❤️? We really appreciate all the love we have received ??.”
