432 families in Manila evacuated, receive hot meals and food boxes

About 432 families in Manila have been evacuated as heavy rains caused floods in several areas in the city over the weekend.

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has evacuated a total of 129 families in District 1, 56 families in District 3, and 247 families in District 5.

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said on Saturday (July 24) that the evacuees were transferred to temporary shelters.

"May ongoing pa ring evacuation at itong mga nabanggit natin na evacuees, most of them ay nailipat natin sila sa temporary shelter. Some of them went to their respective families -- 'yung mga kamag-anak nila," he said.

The evacuees were transferred to Jose Abad Santos High School, Building 1 covered court, Barangay Hall Rooftop, PCI Building, barangay hall of Barangay 661, and Baseco Evacuation Center.

The MDRRMO also set up tents in the evacuation centers.

The Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) has provided hot meals and food boxes to the families.

Domagoso also said that the Manila Health Department (MHD) will make sure that the infants and children are in healthy situations.

The local chief executive has ordered the Manila Barangay Bureau (MBB) to place those barangays near the river sides on high alert due to the high water level in the rivers.

"Walang dapat ipag-panic pero i-high alert kasi mataas ang tubig sa ilog para kung sakali na kailangan lumikas magre-responde ang ating MDRRMO at MDSW (No need to panic. We put them on high alert because of the high water level in the rivers, and if there's a need to evacuate, MDRMMO and MDSW will respond). So, we need your cooperation and vigilance," Domagoso said.

There's no reported injuries and casualties due to heavy rains as of 3:00 p.m. today (July 24), according to Domagoso.
