Over 400 personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in the National Capital Region (NCR) took a career service examination pen and paper test held in Asian Institute of Maritime Studies (AIMS), Pasay City on Sunday, July 18.

The PCG, in cooperation with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and AIMS, said the examination is part of the armed service’s career enhancement program “to ensure the non-politicized appointment and professional advancement of the PCG's workforce.”

Captain Vivien Jane Cay, deputy chief of Coast Guard staff for human resource, said the organization puts premium in professionalizing its workforce.

“Aside from skills enhancement training with local and foreign partner agencies, and allowing our manpower to continue their studies after office hours, the PCG has collaborated with the CSC and AIMS to conduct this exam,” Cay said in a statement.

According to Cay, the initiative will also enhance the confidence of the Coast Guard’s workforce as they perform their jobs effectively.

“This is the organizations' way to optimize professional and operational readiness and strengthen Coast Guard functions which leads to higher rates of retention and greater job satisfaction,” she said.

The CSC said it is hoping to hold another test before year ends after its “successful and smooth” conduct of its career service examination pen and paper test in some regions on Sunday, July 18.

In the NCR, a total of 9,073 employees from 35 government agencies, including those under job orders and contract of services were expected to take the examination. Of the number, 7,977 were supposed to take the test for the Professional Career Service and 2,392 for the Sub-professional level.
