Based on the monitoring report provided by its Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), as of July 22, 6 p.m., a total of 1,113 families or 3,834 individuals have so far sought refuge in 23 evacuation centers in Batangas.

The number of families affected by Taal Volcano’s restiveness increased to 6,100 or 22,036 individuals from 148 affected barangays.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,051 families or 10,971 individuals have opted to stay with their relatives and/or friends.

The DSWD, the local government units (LGUs) and the non-government organisations (NGOs) have so far provided over P16 million worth of aid to the affected families.

The DSWD had vowed to continue coordinating with the local government units (LGUs) “to monitor the situation and to assess how the affected residents can be better assisted.”

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised Taal Volcano’s status from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3 on July 1, at 3:37 p.m. after a short-lived phreatomagmatic eruption at the main crater occurred at 3:16 p.m.

Phreatomagmatic eruption is caused by magma coming into contact with groundwater.
