Marvel starts production on 'Wakanda Forever'

The much-awaited sequel to “Black Panther” is underway.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige announced recently at the "Black Widow" movie premiere that writer-director Ryan Coogler and returning cast members have started work on its sequel titled “Wakanda Forever.”

Expected to return are Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupia Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba and Angela Bassett.

Marvel still has to announce who will take the mantle of Black Panther a.k.a. T’Challa, a role perfectly characterized by actor Chadwick Boseman who passed away due to an illness August of last year.

“It’s clearly very emotional without Chad, but everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud,” Kevin Feige said.

It’s now up to Ryan Coogler to weave a story that will make the transition from Boseman’s Black Panther to a new actor who will take the mantle and make that change feel seamless. Not at all impossible in the context of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The original Black Panther film earned $1.3 billion dollars in North America and the rest of the world combined. Production for “Wakanda Forever” has started in Atlanta and is expected to arrive in cinemas in July of 2021.
