Trillanes taunts Duterte: Why only 18% in VP survey?

After referring to his administration as a "curse," former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV took a swipe at President Duterte anew, asking why the Chief Executive only got 18 percent in a vice-presidential survey if he got high approval ratings.

Trillanes made the statement after a recent Pulse Asia survey result showed that the President topped the Vice Presidential Preference Survey with 18 percent of Filipinos saying they will vote for him if ran for the position in the 2022 polls.

The same pollster added that President Duterte got an 88-percent approval rating.

In a Facebook post, Trillanes pointed out the huge gap in Duterte's ratings in the surveys.

"Sabi ng Pulse Asia, 88% daw ang approval rating ni Duterte. Pero sabi rin sa nasabing survey, 18% lang ang boboto kay Duterte bilang VP. Anyare (According to Pulse Asia, Duterte's approval rating is 88 percent but the same survey showed that only 18 percent will vote for him for vice president. What happened)?" he said.

Last week, President Duterte said he was seriously considering running for vice president but admitted this week that him floating the idea around was just a scare tactic.

Malacañang had welcomed the recent Pulse Asia survey, saying this proved that the public continues to have faith in President Duterte's leadership.

The same survey showed that 28 percent of those surveyed would vote for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio should she run for the presidency next year.

However, President Duterte said he was against his daughter's candidacy, citing his experiences that a woman may not be able to endure. He said she can run if the political climate in the country improves.

"My stand is I am against, really, the candidacy of my daughter. I want her spared from the vagaries of politics dito sa Pilipinas (here in the Philippines)," he said.

"It's not good for a woman to be... you know... being... Brazen yung masyado ang mga salita at masaktan lang (Their words have become so brazen and she might get hurt). So as a father, I would not want that to happen to my daughter," he added.
