Duterte to shoot new informercial on COVID vaccination

President Duterte will soon appear in a new public service advertisement encouraging people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to Presidential spokesman Harry Roque, the President is expected to shoot his spiels for the infomercial this coming Monday. The public service ad is part of the government's communication team's efforts to ease vaccine hesitancy in the country.

“Hindi po tayo titigil. At sa Lunes nga po, iti-tape natin si Presidente dahil siya po iyong biggest endorser natin para doon sa bagong informercial na hinahanda po ng Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (We will not stop. On Monday, we will take videos of the President because he is the biggest endorser for the new infomercial that will be produced by the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson),” Roque said during a televised press briefing Thursday, July 15.

The 76-year-old President has become fully vaccinated against the coronavirus after recently taking his second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine.

Duterte has repeatedly encouraged people to get vaccinated as soon as possible as well as continue to observe health regulations to avoid the spread of the virus. He said vaccination was the country's best defense to prevent the local transmission of the more transmissible coronavirus variants in the country.

Since the government's vaccination drive started last March, more than 3.5 million Filipinos have completed their two-dose vaccine regime. The government reportedly aims to fully inoculate 7 million people by the end of July.

Roque's office earlier initiated an informercial promoting health protocols to fight coronavirus. Duterte appeared in the "Mask, Hugas, Iwas" advertisement commissioned with the help of a private advertising company. The public service ad is usually aired before Roque starts his public briefing aired on state television and other government's social media pages.
