Celebrate Philippines-Japan Friendship Month with these Filipino-inspired ramen dishes

Ramen Nagi Manila's Binagoongan and Kaldereta King ramen

Since 2005, the Philippines and Japan have been observing the month of July as their Friendship Month. According to Proclamation No. 584 signed by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, July 23 will be known as Philippines-Japan Friendship Day, commemorating the "Peace Treaty and Reparations Agreement between the Philippines and Japan."

To honor the camaraderie of the two Asian nations, a local ramen house created dishes that celebrate both Japanese and Filipino flavors. Ramen Nagi Manila brings back its Manila King ramen series, fusing classic Filipino dishes with its signature ramen.

The Manila King ramen series features two ramen variantsâ€”the Binagoongan King and Caldereta King. The Binagoongan ramen bowl elevates the traditional Japanese noodles, its potent blend of tonkotsu broth, with local bagoong. In the bowl are crispy pork belly slices, pan-fried tomato and eggplant, and green and red chili for added spice.

Savory and rich, the Kaldereta King is a unique one with Japanese noodles bathed in a kaldereta sauce. Much like the fiesta staple, the ramen has a generous serving of slow-cooked beef, potato, carrots, and grated cheese.

The Manila King ramen series is available for dine-in only at all operating Ramen Nagi stores until July 15, 2021.
