44 city gov't workers in Davao test positive for COVID-19

DAVAO CITY - The City Health Office on Wednesday (June 2) said a total of 44 city government workers are now being monitored after they were found positive for Sars-CoV-2.

Dr. Ashley Lopez, Acting Head of the City Health Office (CHO) said the city has complete the three-day surveillance swabbing of city government personnel assigned in various offices at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) building here on Sunday (May 30). A total of 1,083 employees underwent swab testing.

“We have completed the swabbing at the Sangguniang Panlungsod. During the Friday, Saturday, Sunday swabbing, we were able to swab a total of 1,083 employees and out of those 1,083, 44 came out positive,” Lopez, said during the Covid-19 Alert Program of the Davao City Disaster Radio.

The SP building was placed on a seven-day lockdown effective Monday, May 31 due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases among city government employees.

Last Monday, City Mayor Sara Duterte said at least 10 city government employees assigned in the offices at the SP building have tested positive for Covid-19.

The Covid-19 positive employees are mostly those working in city government offices located on the ground floor of the SP Building, including the City Assessor’s Office, City Treasurer’s Office, and the City Civil Registrar’s Office.

Lopez said most of those who tested positive for Covid-19 were from the City Assessor’s Office. He said the 44 employees have been isolated and that his office will conduct disinfection inside the SP Building offices.

On Monday, May 31, the SP Building had been placed on a seven-day lockdown due to the alarming rise of Covid-19 cases among city government employees.

Davao City recorded 195 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday bringing the total number to 17,528 with 2,013 active cases.
