10 city gov't employees test positive for COVID-19 in Davao City


DAVAO CITY - At least 10 city government employees working at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) building here tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2.

Mayor Sara Duterte said Monday, May 31, that the employees were among the 327 Davao City government employees who have undergone swab testing.

“Nag-swab na atoang mga employees og daghan sa ilaha ang nag-positive diha sa Sangguniang Panlungsod Building nato (Our employees have been swabbed and there are a lot of them who tested positive),” Duterte said during her Special Hours program aired via Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR).

Last May 28, the SP building was placed on lockdown from May 31 to June 6. Duterte said she has already instructed the Human Resources Management Office (HRMO) "to send everyone for a work-from-home for one incubation period."

"That is for 14 days,” she said.

The positive cases found were from different offices located at the SP Building but the most number of cases came from the Business Bureau, City Treasurer’s Office, City Assessor’s Office, and Civil Registrar’s Office located at the ground floor level of the building.

As of May 31, the Department of Health (DOH) Davao Center for Health Development reported 248 new cases of COVID-19 in the region bringing the total number of active cases to 3,140. Of these new cases, 114 are from Davao City.

The city has recorded a total of 17,000 cases with 1,665 active cases. Davao City has also recorded four new fatalities due to COVID-19 on Monday bringing the total number of deaths to 755. Currently, the city has 14,580 total recoveries, including the 45 new recoveries recorded yesterday.
