'American Idol' Mother's Day special to feature Coldplay's Chris Martin as guest

Chris Martin will mentor on "American Idol."

As a Mother’s Day special, "American Idol" is doing a Coldplay-themed episode. Said episode is set for airing this May 9.

The long-running singing competition, is already on its nineteenth season.

The current season premiered in February and is now down to its remaining seven contestants.

The Sunday episode will feature two performances from each of the remaining Idol hopefuls.

The first number will feature a Mother’s Day tribute from each singer.

Chris Martin will then guest mentor and guide each singer through the Coldplay catalog which will then be the second featured number from the contestants.

Coldplay’s "American Idol" stint will coincide with the band’s upcoming debut performance of a new track titled “Higher Power.”

The new single is produced by Max Martin and is their first release since 2019's “Everyday Life.”

The band’s gimmick-reveal for the new single was via a coded message posted on billboards around the world that eventually led fans to a website called Alien Radio FM.

According to a released statement from the band, “'Higher Power' is a song that arrived on a little keyboard and a bathroom sink at the start of 2020. It was produced by Max Martin who is a true wonder of the universe.”
