Mayor Isko on 'super slow' remark: We were just honest

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno'' Domagoso said on Tuesday (May 18) that he was just expressing an honest opinion when he mentioned the "super slow" deployment of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines to local government units (LGUs).

In an interview with CNN Philippines, Domagoso said he understands that it is difficult to procure COVID-19 vaccines in the world because of the demand but stressed that once the vaccines arrive in the country it should not last for 10 days to weeks in storage.

"Maiintindihan ko pa ‘yung a day or two kaya kailangan lagi mabilis ‘yung deployment (I would understand if it will only take a day or two, the vaccine deployment needs to be swift)," he said.

Domagoso thanked Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and National Task Force against COVID 19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. who he said "saw" that he was just giving his honest take on the previous batches of COVID-19 vaccines.

The mayor believes that herd immunity or the vaccination of 70 percent of the population may be reached by September.

"Hindi naman tayo nag-ko-complain but sometimes we have to stress the point (We are not complaining but sometimes we have to stress the point)," he said.

Meanwhile, Domagoso also suggested the inclusion of persons under A4 category in the COVID-19 vaccination.

"Kasi kung talagang ang goal din natin magkaroon ng consumer confidence para mabuksan ang ekonomiya buksan na natin ‘yung A4 (Because if our goal is to achieve vaccine confidence and the opening of the economy, we need to vaccinate those under the A4)," he explained.
