National ID Step 1 online listing draws over 800,000 registrants -- PSA

Filipinos' interest in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) online registration continues to increase as more individuals register for the national ID, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Monday, May 17.

PSA said 849,862 registrants have completed the online Step 1 registration, as of May 13.

The pilot online Step 1 registration started on April 30.

The launch of the online Step 1 registration aims to boost the general public’s engagement with PhilSys without compromising health and safety protocols.

PSA said the online registration was "received well" by the public despite the technical difficulties on the first day of its implementation.

The agency has committed to continue to develop user-management strategies to improve the website and accommodate more registrants.

At present, almost 34 million have already completed the Step 1 registration via the house-to-house collection of demographic data in priority provinces.

PhilSys aims to provide a formal identification to Filipinos to ease the delivery of services and make public and private transactions seamless, safe, and efficient.

It is also anticipated to ease the public’s access to financial, social protection, health, education, and other government services.
