Caloocan gov't to file criminal charges vs owner of resort for operating amid quarantine — Malapitan
The local government of Caloocan City will file criminal charges against the owner of a resort in Barangay 171 that accommodated hundreds of guests in violation of quarantine protocols.
Mayor Oca Malapitan said on Monday the owner of Gubat sa Ciudad Resort will face charges for violation of R.A. 11332, the Law on Reporting of Communicable Diseases.
"Pa-filean namin sya ng RA 11332, criminal offense ito kung saan ay nakapaloob dito yung violation ng IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) guidelines (We will file charges for violation of RA 11332 against them, which is a criminal offense included in the IATF guidelines)," Malapitan said in a CNN interview.
On Sunday, Malapitan ordered the closure of the resort immediately after receiving reports that hundreds of individuals were gathered en masse at the resort in celebration of Mother's Day. He added that a permanent revocation of business permit would be issued against the facility.
The mayor also said Barangay 171 chairman Romeo Rivera had been aware of the resort's operation since April 20, but the latter did not inform him.
"Hindi naman kasing dami ng tao ngayon at inabisuhan, winarningan nila, according to the barangay captain (The guests before were not as many as now. And the barangay captain said, they already issued a warning against the resort)," Malapitan said, in response to question why Rivera did not inform him of the resort's operation.
Malapitan also asked the guests of the resort to undergo mandatory 10-day isolation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. He also advised them to reach out to the local government for free swab testing should they develop symptoms.
In a related development, the local government of nearby San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan also urged its constituents who went to the resort to undergo 14-day quarantine and to undergo COVID-19 swab testing.
