Japan envoy lauds Jaja Santiago

Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko lauded Filipina volleyball star Jaja Santiago for making history in the recently-concluded Japan V.League V Cup.

Santiago became the first Filipina volleyball athlete to bag a title in an overseas league, helping the Saitama Ageo Medics, 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-17, en route to a tournament title sweep in the Division 1 V Cup at the Ota City General gym in Tokyo last March 28.

"May she continue to soar high in and bring pride to !" Kazuhiko wrote in his official Twitter account @AmbJPNinPH.

The 6-foot-4 Santiago scored 11 points on nine kills and two blocks, while teammates Mami Uchiseto and Yuka Sato led with 15 points apiece.

This wasn't the first time that the Japanese envoy showed support to the country's athletes as he also admitted being a fan of basketball star Thirdy Ravena, who plays for the San-En Neophoenix in Japan B.League.

Kazuhiko, in a recent tweet, also wished the best of luck for Ravena's comeback: "We are excited to witness your amazing play once again. Gambatte!"

But the Ryukyu Golden Kings spoiled the former Ateneo standout's return with a 110-71 road beating.
