Jessica Walter, iconic 'Arrested Development' and 'Archer' actor, dead at 80

Jessica Walter’s acting career spanned over six decades.
For Jessica Walter-late bloomers, she was the voice of Malory Archer on the FX’s animated spy series “Archer.” And for those who had followed the hit series “Arrested Development,” she was Lucille Bluth. The actress died Wednesday, March 24 at her home in New York City. She was 80.
Walter’s career started on television in the 60’s, appearing on numerous shows such as “Love of Life,” “Mission Impossible” and “Columbo.” Walter made the jump to movies when she became the lead in Clint Eastwood’s directorial-debut film “Play Misty For Me.”

Walter won an Emmy Award for her title role in the police drama series “Amy Prentiss” and was nominated three more times for her roles in “Trapper John, M.D.” and “Streets of San Francisco” and a nod for her character as Lucille Bluth in “Arrested Development.”
Walter is survived by her daughter, Brooke Bowman and grandson, Micah Heymann. Her daughter said in a statement: “It is wikth a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica. A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on-screen and off. While her legacy will live on through her body of work, she will also be remembered by many for her wit, class, and overall joie de vivre.”
Walter’s voice characterization as ISIS spy agency boss and mother to agent Sterling, Malory Archer in “Archer” is one of her most recent roles that has introduced the actress to a much younger generation.
