How to safely celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year

It is the time of the year when green outfits and shamrock reign supreme and whiskey and beer are free-flowing as we celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Mounted every March 17, the holiday commemorates the death of Ireland's foremost patron saint, St. Patrick, and coming of Christianity to the country.

Although the holiday hails from the beautiful European nation, it is an event observed all over the world, from the Caribbean to Asia, with Filipinos eager to participate during its festivities. Previous stories by the Manila Bulletin state that in 2019, over 15,000 Fiipinos joined the celebration in Ireland. Locally, holy masses were held in Cebu to honor the life of the blessed saint.

While devout Catholics know that get-togethers and drinking aren't allowed during the Lenten season, the restriction on those things are lifted just for the day.

Sadly, St. Patrick's Day festivities all over the world were canceled last year in light of the pandemic. Now, if you're missing the good booze and the company that goes with it, then you're in luck as we found a way for you to celebrate the holiday in the safety of your own home.

This year, Jameson Irish Whiskey is moving the party virtually. Today, March 13, 2021, Jameson and The Palace play hosts to a virtual St. Patrick’s Day festivity on Facebook. The party features the hottest local acts DJ Ron Poe, Curtismith, August Wahh, Tala, Super Mikki, Leanne and Naara, and Marga on the Mic, allowing you to join in and vibe right in your room—or wherever you might be—while you sip on a glass of your favorite Irish whiskey, mixed however you like.

Also as part of the celebration, the Irish distiller has partnered with local brands Don’t Blame The Kids (DBTK) and Vamos, who’ve come up with exclusive limited-edition Jameson St. Patrick’s Day merch.

Speaking of limited-edition merch, Jameson’s also tapped local artist Jap Mikel to create a box design just for St. Patrick’s Day called “Twilight City,” which depicts the best parts of life in Manila.

“Last year might have been hard on us, but this year we’re going to take our tradition back for ourselves and celebrate the things we can celebrate this St. Patrick’s Day,” said Frances Favila, Jameson brand manager. “So wherever you are, join in on the fun of our online St. Patrick’s Day party with a glass of Jameson Irish Whiskey!”
