Gimmick or not, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s got a Grammy gig.

This was confirmed by Mars’ post on Twitter that showed them on the updated performance lineup at the upcoming music awards show this Sunday.

Mars and .Paak recently formed the new duo Silk Sonic and released the retro styled R&B track “Leave The Door Open” last February.

Since the producers-in-charge of the show at the Recording Academy announced their list of performers for the virtual show last weekend, the duo have been “playfully campaigning to perform at the event all week,” as reported by Rolling Stone.

The duo started with a series of tweets discussing who was confirmed to perform. Eventually, the tweets progressed with the hashtag #letSilkSonicThrive. To make it more interesting, some “joke infighting” was injected by the duo in the conversation.

At one point Mars tweeted: “we’ll send in an audtion tape and take as many Covid tests as we need to. I promise we won’t be extra. We just really want a gig again.”

To which the Recording Academy twitter account replied with an official invite for the duo. “We’ve bee trying to call you all week. Have you changed your numbers?” In the same tweet @RecordingAcad said, “are you free this Sunday night” Follow back and we will DM for details.”

Whether it was a gimmick or not, it was the kind of organic promotion the Grammys needed to drum up interest in the upcoming show this Sunday. The Grammys still hasn’t announced the official venue for the event, but confirmed it won’t be at Staples Center. Nevertheless, it promised that it built “an entire world” where “multiple stages with Covid 19 in mind” to house the storied music awards show for this year.

For Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak who’s looking for a gig for their new band, it's a wish granted.

Silk Sonic is slated to release their debut album “An Evening With Silk Sonic” later this year.
