Indulgence with less of the guilt
As going plant-based with your diet becomes a way of today's lifestyle, it is just natural for food brands to notice and take advantage by producing greener products. This year, food giant Nestlé is skipping the dairy as it launches the vegan version of the famous chocolate treat, the KitKat bar.
"Taste was a key factor when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat," Louise Barrett, head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Center, says in a statement. "We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat."
According to Bloomberg, the chocolate bar features a formula based on rice to substitute milk in its production. The vegan confectionery, dubbed as the Kitkat V, will be available first online and in selected stores in the UK before a global distribution.
In the Philippines, the demand for plant-based food products hits an all-time high as Filipinos pay more attention to what they're eating during the quarantine. In addition to that, many celebrities and food writers have been advocating for people to stir their carts to the much healthier isle of supermarkets and grocery stores.Â
"There is a quiet food revolution underway that is changing how people eat," says Alexander von Maillot, Nestlé's head of confectionery. "We want to be at the forefront of that, championing the discovery of plant-based food and beverages."
