Next year I resolve to start anew

     I’ll try and leave everything behind

But this resolution is making me feel blue

     It’s hard to change my frame of mind

It’s never easy to forgive and forget

     If it’s a matter of self-affliction

Already I am filled with regret

     Guilt is my addiction

Indeed, it’s time I changed my ways

     Though I fear becoming somebody else

My instinct is to hold on even to every malaise

And every vice that keeps me from progress

Now for all that’s me that shouldn’t be me I grieve

While I watch the sky light up on New Year’s Eve
