DOJ prosecutors expected to release findings on PNP-PDEA ‘misencounter’ in QC early 2022

The Department of Justice (DOJ) panel of prosecutors is expected to resolve early next year the criminal complaints filed against those involved in the “misencounter” between operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during an illegal drugs operation in Quezon City last February.

The “misencounter” took place last Feb. 24 near a fastfood restaurant along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City where a gunfight broke out between operatives of the PNP and PDEA.

The gunfight resulted in the deaths of two policemen, a PDEA agent and an informant.

Prosecutor General Bendicto A. Malcontento on Monday, Dec. 13, said the panel has yet to submit its resolution on the preliminary investigation is has been conducting.

“Early next year pa ma-resolve yan (It will be resolved early next year),” Malcontento said.

He said both the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the PDEA filed separate complaints on the incident. “The NBI complaint was consolidated with the PDEA complaint,” he added.

In its complaint, the NBI’s National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) Office accused five persons of having committed homicide, namely: PDEA agents Khee Rodas, Jelou Satiniaman, Jeffrey Baguidudol, and Romeo Asuncion; and policeman PCPL Alvin Borja.

Santiniaman and Borja are also accused of attempted homicide along with policemen PLT Ronnie Ereno, PCPL PCPL Marlon Masiclat, PCPL Ronilo Prepose, PCPL Jason Coranez, PCPL Aries Curit, PCPL Marco Tapanan, and PCPL James Dasalla.

Baguidudol was also charged with falsification of official document.

Policemen PMAJ Sandie Caparroso, PCPL Paul Gandeza, and PLT Honet Besas were also accused of having committed direct assault with physical injuries, direct assault with less serious injuries and direct assault.

Both Caparroso and Besas were also accused of robbery and conniving or consenting to evasion.

Gandeza was also charged with robbery, while, Ereno and PCPL Christopher Alvarez were accused also of conniving or consenting to evasion.

Details of the PDEA complaint were not available.
