Vice presidential aspirant and Senator Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan, together with the opposition’s senatorial bets, are rallying supporters to subscribe to their YouTube channels as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) readies to issue a new rule that will disallow unverified accounts to boost or promote electoral posts.

It started with a post from musician-activist Jim Paredes on Friday, Dec. 10, calling on supporters to follow human rights lawyer and senatorial aspirant Jose Manuel 'Chel' Diokno on YouTube because he might not be allowed by new Comelec rules to make political blogs if his account is not verified.
YouTube rules require a total of 100,000 followers before an account can be verified.
Supporters of the veteran lawyer answered the call and by Saturday morning, Diokno already has more than 105,000 followers. As of posting time, he has 199,000 followers.
“Magandang hapon! Lubos akong nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng nag-subscribe sa ating (Good afternoon! I am very thankful to all those who subscribed to our) YouTube channel. We exceeded our goal and are now at 172,000 subscribers. Finally, mayroon na tayong (we have a) verified checkmark! I am overwhelmed by your support!,” Diokno said on his Facebook page earlier.
He, however, added that the same rules will apply on the YouTube channels of all other opposition senatorial bets.
“Ngunit may isa pa sana akong (But I have another) request. Please also subscribe to the YouTube channels of VP Leni, Sen. Kiko, and my fellow senatorial candidates,” he wrote.
Diokno posted the links to the accounts of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan, as well as senatoriables Leila de Lima, Risa Hontiveros, Antonio Trillanes IV, former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat Jr., labor leader Sonny Matula, and lawyer Alex Lacson.

Robredo currently has 159,000 subscribers, Pangilinan, 71,700 subscribers; De Lima, 7,850 subscribers; Hontiveros, 9,300 subscribers; Trillanes, 36,100 subscribers; Baguilat, 5,700 subscribers; Matula, 4,700 subscribers; and Lacson, 3,300 subscribers.
Pangilinan was elated by the outpouring support of their “ka-TROPA” who subscribed to their Youtube channels.
Both Robredo and Pangilinan called their supporters ka-TROPA and Kakampink. TROPA is from the words team Robredo and Pangilinan while Kakampink is the combination of the words kakampi (ally) and pink, the Vice President’s campaign color.
The senator thanked his supporters as the number of his YouTube followers is nearing the 100,000-mark.
“Konti na lang. Kaya natin ‘to (We just need a little. We can do it). We will reach 100K! Walang imposible sa pusong radikal na nagmamahal (Nothing is imposible for radical love),” he said in a post with an emoticon of pink heart.
