DepEd: 30 private schools nominated for pilot face-to-face classes

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, Nov. 9, said that the list of private schools to participate in the pilot run of face-to-face classes is not yet finalized but 30 schools have already been nominated by their respective regional offices.

“As permitted, we will be releasing the decision on which schools will participate in the pilot implementation that will start on Nov. 22,” DepEd Assistant Secretary for Field Operations Malcolm Garma said in a virtual press briefing.

Based on the summary of private schools nominated by the regions for the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes as of Nov. 8, Garma said that there are two schools nominated in Region 1 and three schools each in Regions III, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, and XII. Only one school was nominated in Region XI.

Meanwhile, Garma said that “no school passed” the assessment conducted by the Regional Office in Cagayan Valley.

Region IV-A did not recommend any private schools for the pilot run as well.

Holding of limited face-to-face classes, Garma explained, is not yet applicable in Metro Manila and Cordillera Administrative Region.

As approved by President Duterte, there will be 120 schools to participate in the pilot study of limited face-to-face classes to start on Nov. 15.

Of the 120, 100 are public schools and 20 are private schools.

Garma said based on the reports of the participating regions, 100 public schools will be pushing through with the pilot implementation of classes from Nov. 15, 2021 to January 31, 2022.

DepEd has already completed the list of 100 public schools that will participate in the pilot run.

For two school years, DepEd has been implementing a distance learning set-up wherein students learn their lessons at home through multiple learning delivery modalities such as printed and offline learning, online learning, and television and radio-based instruction or a combination of these modalities under blended learning.
