VP Leni Robredo cooks lugaw with Mimiyuuh and shares relationship advice

‘Ang paniniwala ko kasi is dapat hindi mo siya sini-seek,” VP Leni says about finding love.
Lugaw or rice porridge has been part of our pandemic dining for numerous reasons. One, because of its health benefits and comforting taste, of course. Another reason is due to its viral status, from it being an essential need to being associated with Vice President (VP) Leni Robredo, so much so that “Leni Lugaw” trends online whenever relief operations or evacuation happen. And if you are curious about her version of lugaw, here’s our chance to cook it the VP way.

In the latest vlog of social media personality Mimiyuuuh, VP Leni flexes her kitchen skills as she shares her recipe for lugaw, and it looks simple and easy. For her rice porridge, the Presidential aspirant incorporates the usual ingredients such as malagkit (glutinous rice), chicken strips, and the aromatics such as garlic, onions, and ginger, with hard boiled egg, spring onions, and fried garlic as toppings.
Here’s how she did it:
- Saute onions and garlic. VP Leni cooks the onion first in the hot oil before the garlic to avoid burning.
- When the onion and garlic are cooked, add the ginger.
- Add the chicken to brown.
- After the chicken has a touch of color, pour in the chicken broth and the fish sauce.
- After a minute or two, add the glutinous rice.
- Add salt and pepper for seasoning.
- Let it simmer until the rice is tender.
- When done, serve in a bowl and garnish with boiled egg, spring onions, and fried crispy garlic.
The verdict, well, Miiyuuuh’s “I love it” says it all.
Apart from cooking lugaw, VP Leni also answers some of Mimiyuuuh’s questions, from career to shopping, but most notably her views on relationships. According to her, when it comes to finding love, one shouldn’t look for it.
“Ang paniniwala ko kasi is dapat hindi mo siya sini-seek (I believe you shouldn’t seek for it),” VP Leni muses. “Paniniwala ko nga pagsini-seek mo, iyon yung mga hindi nagla-last. So mas mabuti na take your time, kasi yung para sa iyo ay dadating... Kapag dumating yan, para sa iyo talaga yung dadating (I believe that when you seek it, what you get are the ones that do not last. It is better to take your time because the right one for you will come... And when it comes, it is really for you).”
