A total of 37,513 or more than 77 percent of 48,539 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in seven jail facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) nationwide has been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement, BuCor said that as of Nov. 19, a total of 9,359 PDLs has been fully vaccinated while 28,286 have received their first dose.

It is expected that the number of vaccinated PDLs will increase due to the three-day vaccination program launched by the government. Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra had said that the government will include PDLs in the program that started last Nov. 29.

The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City registered the highest number of vaccinated PDLs with 22,134 out of its 28,516 prison population, BuCor said.

Vaccinated at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City were 3,100 inmates; the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, 790; San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City, 1,716; Leyte Regional Prison (LRP), 1,946; Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte, 6,122; and the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan, 1,705.
