Globe Business, the enterprise arm of the country's leading telecommunications and ICT solutions provider Globe Telecom, has successfully concluded the Leadership Innovation Forum (Lead-In) 2021, the company's flagship event featuring topics that revolve around thought leadership pieces, which aim to create a positive impact not only on businesses but also on society and the country.

In its 12th year, Lead-In 2021 carried the theme "Bigger Picture, Greater Future: Redefining Success Beyond Business," advancing the discourse on the power that environmental, social, and governance integration has on the future of businesses. Gathering over 900 guests, including C-level executives and leaders across the country in a virtual venue held Friday, the event aims to inspire leaders to be compassionate and convey the core message of building a better business for all stakeholders involved.

This year's Lead-In officially opened with Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu's remarks, encouraging attendees to adopt an all-encompassing approach toward creating a purposeful business. "When we say we're building greater businesses, we define greatness in a holistic sense. Greater for us humans. Greater for our stakeholders. Greater for everyone," said Cu.

As a technology company, Globe also underscored during the session the importance of integration between humanity and technology. "Companies that are more mature in the digital space are winning the future because digital transformation has become a life essential. But it is digital transformation with compassion for humanity that will create more value moving forward," said YolyCrisanto, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications at Globe.

Apart from Globe executives, key business leaders and decision-makers from other organizations also shared insights, discussing business practices that revolve around ESG initiatives that impact a large ecosystem. "What then is the purpose of corporations? It's not just to pursue profits. It's to pursue profits to solve the problems of people," said keynote speaker, Lucas Joppa, Microsoft Corporation's Chief Environmental Officer. Adding to Crisanto's statement, Joppa also talked about how companies can utilize digitally empowered innovations that can help address underserved needs post-pandemic and how it is good for both profit and the planet.

Cesar Romero, President and CEO of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation and Country Chairman of Shell Companies in the Philippines, also shared his personal experience with the company and how business transformation can be inclusive and more socially responsible with digital technology. Fred Ayala, Managing Director, management committee member of Ayala Corporation and Chief Operating Officer of iPeople, Inc., also discussed the role of education in creating sustainable business ecosystems and how companies, in general, can create shared value to better serve a diverse set of stakeholders.

Lead-In was concluded with inspiring closing remarks from Globe Business Senior Vice President for the Enterprise Group, Peter Maquera. He mentioned, “We’re all shifting our paradigms as we transition into the new, post-pandemic world. I cannot overemphasize the gravity of this fact. While some say that we were born too late to explore the moon, yet too early to roam the stars, I believe that we are living in an equally important age in this Great Reset."

In line with Lead-In 2021's key message on the power that ESG integration has on enterprises, Globe Business has partnered with The Mead Foundation to implement its Pawikan Project to combat sea turtle egg poaching and a sustainable reforestation program in Iba, Zambales. As part of the collaboration, Globe Business has donated P500,000 to the foundation. The nonprofit organization works closely with indigenous communities, namely the Aetas of Zambales, not only to support reforestation but also to provide livelihood opportunities to community members.

“The Mead Foundation thanks Globe for their recognition of and support for our non-profit initiatives focused on conservation of the environment and community development.  Whilst the pandemic has presented unique challenges, we have worked diligently to continue our programs as the need remains as great as ever. This donation will be used to support the ongoing reforestation program we have in Zambales, which has been supported by Globe since 2018,” said Ben Mead, Founder of the Mead Foundation.

“In addition, it will also fund the upcoming Pawikan Project: a conservation project to combat sea turtle egg poaching in Zambales. It employs local community members and engages tourists to promote ecotourism.  We look forward to continuing our partnership with Globe for many years to come!” he added.

The partnership with The Mead Foundation is in line with Globe's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UN SDG No. 15 Life on Land. The program is composed of three key components, namely reforestation, food security, and sustainable livelihood development.
